(1)  After a pressure treated deck has been built, it is necessary to wait at least 4 to 6 months before applying any type of sealant.

(2)  Select a sealant company you feel comfortable with, and never contract with someone to do work, if they don’t at first visit your home to provide a quote.

(3)  Keep in mind sealant will waterproof your wood, and stain will give it UV protection.  It is best to apply the two separately.

(4)  Always find out what kind of product is going to be applied to your deck.  There are oil, water and even silicone based sealants.  It is important to understand the difference.

(5)  Everyone knows you need to seal your deck, but don’t forget about fences, play sets, driveways,  garage floors, patios and basement walls.

(6)  Get all guarantees, warranties and promises in writing.

(7)  A one-time application should form a permanent bond with wood, concrete and masonry, creating a protective barrier against damaging elements and chemicals.
