(1)  Sunrooms differ from patio covers in that they can be used all year round because they’re glassed and/or screened in.  Windows can be removed in the summer when you want a more open feeling.  You can add electrical outlets and a ceiling fan along with other custom features.  The roof is fully insulated.

(2)  Since the number one complaint for a sunroom construction or additions are leaks, it is very important to choose a quality company that offers a solid guarantee to do the installation.

(3)  Make sure that if you are ‘adding’ a sunroom that you choose a sunroom constructed with rugged and durable materials.

(4)  Pick a sunroom design/installation contractor that will make your addition look like it’s part of the original construction and that there is aesthetic synergy with your home’s exterior.

(5)  Sunrooms help provide an additional space and a new space for different types of entertaining.  Homeowners may use the new space for tea parties, poker parties, sleepovers and the like.  The average sunroom is about 12 feet by 16 feet or the size of an average living room.

(6)  Be sure to ask your sunroom construction contractor if the frame members they use are ‘thermally improved’ to reduce the transfer of exterior temperatures to inside surfaces.

(7)  Comparison shopping should be based on reputation, reliability, experience, and price ‘value’, not just lowest price.

(8)  When comparing estimates, make sure each one is based on the same scope of work, if you are comparing apples to apples, unless there are special options considered by the contractor.  If your contractor suggests deviations, ask that they be presented as options.

(9)  Contractors should carry personal liability insurance.  Avoid doing business with contractors who don’t carry the appropriate insurance.  Otherwise, you may be held liable for any injuries and damages that occur during the project.

(10)  Use a well known and reputable company who you can always find in the future, or be able to easily contact for any reason.  You want an established company with an office that you can go to if you ever need personal contact.
