(1)  Choose an environmentally friendly, low maintenance and durable siding product.  There are new innovations in high quality siding materials available.

(2)  Always install a housewrap, such as Tyvek, underneath the siding, to insure energy savings.

(3)  When your siding is being installed, the use of ladders is the preferred method.  The use of scaffolding may result in potential holes in your roof.

(4)  Keep your chimney in good shape.  Have your chimney area inspected every year to detect any potential hidden damage.

(5)  Only contract with siding  contractors that have all of the proper insurance. Request written proof and call their insurance company to verify the validity.

(6)  Only use siding contractors that use reputable materials by name-brand manufactures with extended ‘iron-clad’ warranties.

(7)  If you have changes, be sure to get written documentation on changes, cost and time.

(8)  Check the progress of the work and do not make the final payment until you are satisfied with the work and the contractor has furnished proof that all subcontractors and construction liens have been paid off.

(9)  Be sure that the contractor or company agrees in writing that all work will conform to city, county and/or state building codes and protocol.

(10)  Always hire companies that you can communicate with and have a permanent office address.  You want an established company with an office you can go to if you ever need personal contact.  Check out the address and how long they have been in the area.

(11)  Require that any company representative (regardless of service category) consulting with you on your job, service or project, completely understand every detail about their product and services, product features and benefits, installation specifications, warranty information and the like.

(12)  Have all parties that will be involved or have an interest in the project at the initial consultation. Determine the key contact person with whom the contractor will communicate with during the project.
